Dani The Dachshund Learns About His Fire Alarm - Book for Anxious Kids
A Story About Big Feelings and Brave Little Bodies
Meet Dani — a gentle, long-bodied friend here to help kids understand anxiety in a way that feels safe, empowering, and never overwhelming.
Written by Clinical Psychologist Olivia Yaksich, Dani the Dachshund is a beautifully illustrated picture book that teaches children about their body’s “fire alarm” - the natural response we all have when we feel worried or unsafe.
With warmth and clarity, it helps little ones (and their grown-ups) learn how to recognise big emotions and begin to manage them with kindness.
More than just a story, this book is a tool.
It opens the door to conversations about feelings, safety, and coping - especially for kids navigating early stressors like family changes, separation, or everyday anxiety.
It’s also a powerful way for adults to reflect on their own emotional experiences and support their children with language that’s emotion-focused and trauma-informed.
Whether you’re a parent, carer, teacher or therapist, Dani the Dachshund belongs in your toolkit. It’s education, comfort, and connection - all in one little book.
Combine it with the Big Feelings Card Deck.
